MERU-Konzert 2014

Enjoy the perfect sounds of nature in a unique concert experience. For the fifth year, MERU Vlodrop presents a summer concert of Gandharva Veda music,. This tradition of music was developed more than 4000 years ago from natural sounds and rhythms.

Maharishi Gandharva Veda is more than just music: it is the sounds of nature, expressed in wonderfully relaxing melodies by great masters. This music is successfully used for healing in Vedic sound and music therapy.

On this occasion some of the greatest masters of Indian classical music will be performing.

MERU is pleased to present the well known flautist Rakesh Chaurasia who studied under his uncle, the legendary master Hariprasad Chaurasia, from childhood. Rakesh Chaurasia is known for his incredibly beautiful and captivating raga melodies that flow in perfect purity from his Bansuri flute.

He is accompanied on tabla by Vijay Ghate, one of the most sought after percussionists in India today. Vijay Ghate is highly appreciated by both Indian and Western musicians for his complex tabla compositions, executed clearly, skillfully and precisely.

In the second part of the concert Utsav Lal, one of the most creative Indian raga pianists and composers, will perform. Utsav Lal is one of the world's top pianists and has received the coveted title of "Young Steinway Artist". His creative expression of feelings and emotions of the ragas, combined with his unique style and innovative interpretations, are widely acclaimed worldwide.

He is accompanied on Tabla by Sandip Bhattacharya, also a well-known percussionist who has performed with many great artists of Indian classical music.

The finale will be a duet by the two great artists Rakesh Chaurasia and Utsav Lal and will surely be an unforgettable experience.
