Vata is responsible for all movements, breathing, mass transfer and all excretions. It controls your heartbeat and nerve impulses. Those with a dominant Vata have a light bone structure and a low weight. They find it difficult to gain weight, have an irregular appetite, are sensitive to noise and have acute reactions to sounds. As those with a dominant Vata become cold very easily, they feel comfortable in the heat and like to eat and drink hot dishes and drinks. They are flexible, enthusiastic, imaginative and talkative. If their Vata becomes unbalanced, this often results in nervousness, anxiousness, worry and trouble sleeping. Dry skin, constipation and cold hands and feet can also indicate a disturbed Vata.
The Vata dosha can be easily unbalanced, even for those whose Vata ratio is low.
Pitta controls all metabolic processes. It is responsible for digestion, absorbing food in the intestines and regulating body heat, visual acuity and intellect. People with a dominant Pitta have an average figure, eat a lot, can normally tolerate all foods and move their bowels two or three times per day. They become easily irritated if their meal times are disrupted. They are of average build. Those with a dominant Pitta are good talkers, are good at structuring things, are neat and inventive as well as ambitious and decisive. If their Pitta becomes unbalanced, they are prone to wanting perfection, fits of rage, bad temperedness as well as skin rashes and inflammation.
Kapha holds the various bodily structures together; it facilitates mass, resilience and fertility. People with a dominant Kapha are well-built with defined musculature and a tendency to become overweight. They have a good immune system and rarely become ill. Those with a dominant Kapha are persistent; manual work and movements are good for them. Their traits are patience, strength of mind and gentleness. If their Kapha becomes unbalanced, they will be prone to becoming overweight, dull or depressed as well as feeling nauseous or bloated and catching cold.
