Ayurveda enumerates many methods and preparations to maintain our individual balance, and our health. For example, herbalised ghees and oils ("Gritams" and "Tailams"), distillates, ("Arks"), and plant powders ("Churnas").

Ayurvedic tea preparations belong to another class, which is regarded as particularly effective: the so-called decoctions. In the original Ayurvedic language, Sankskrit, such decoctions are called Kashyams. The Kashyams are further divided into five medicated formulations (Pancha-Kashya-Kalpana):

1 Herbal juices ("Swaras") 2 Herbal pastes ("Kalkas") 3 intensive herbal decoctions ("Kwaths") 4 cold infusions ("Himas") 5 hot infusions ("Phants").

So, Ayurvedic teas are "Phants": hot infusions, which can be prepared quickly and are both beneficial and effective. Specifically, leaves, flowers and plants with a high percentage of essential oil are used.

Sarangadhar-Samhita, one of the ancient Ayurvedic texts, clearly describes, how powdered herbs are covered with filters and steeped with hot water for 3-5 minutes.

In 1987, on the basis of this proven knowledge, the most famous Vaidyas of India, with their unique understanding of the effects of herbs on the doshas, suported the development, production, and worldwide distribution of Maharishi Ayurveda Teas.

Today, the range includes the classics, Vata-, Pitta- and Kapha-Tea, as well as many other carefully selected tea specialties. Most of the teas are organic quality, and all are tested for microbes, heavy metals and pesticides, according to the latest European standards.

And of course, all our teas come with the most important quality that makes tea so popular around the world: a rich, great taste!

Take an aromatic journey of discovery, in the delightful world of delicious Maharishi Ayurveda teas.
